Dancing On the River (orchestral arrangement)

"Dancing On The River" is a strongly rhythmic instrumental medley of three Stephen Foster songs from 1850 and 1860. The opening tune is the rustic romantic song "Nelly Bly" (1850), scored for fiddle, piano, banjo and percussion. With the entrance of the snare drum, the tune changes to Foster's song "The Glendy Burk," (1860) one of his last compositions. A second violin, tuba, cymbals and trumpet augment the performing forces. A third tune, "Angelina Baker" (1850) rounds out the set, initiated with solo violin and percussion with second fiddle, banjo, bass and guitar joining in for an energetic and lively finale.
